about
South Australian songwriter and piano-hitter, Jason Coe , otherwise known around the local traps as "JP Coe", has some new music released this month.
This is his first music release since the 2014 digital-only, full length album 'Preparations' was born, he returns with his first official single, 'Melted Hands.' A hint of what to expect from his new EP, 'Elevation' due for release later in 2016.
"Melted Hands was an attempt to elevate a really quirky idea. Four octave notes, which by themselves sound like a musical train wreck, pieced together with a chorus like a thick, hot pepper sauce, and a sweet bridge like a ode to romance. The whole thing is weird and wonderful, in my opinion"
With the DIY trademark he is known for, JP Coe self produced and recorded the instrumentation, with extra assistance from former City Riots/We Do This guitarist John De Michele, and past Rejusa bassist 'Buck'. Marcel Cuthbertson at Blast Furnace Studio had engineering responsibilities, with the mastering by Erik Wolf in Nashville, TN.
"Lyrically this song is about a person committing to an unwanted duty. Those times you're asked to do something for a friend or colleague, which you're obliged to do, whether you want to or not. In effect, your hands are tied."
Jason's trio 'JP Coe & the Delegates' was a guest at the 2016 Bank SA "Garden of Unearthly Delights" Fringe stage. He has been enlisted to appear at this year's Semaphore Music Festival, held in early October.
lyrics
A date to join and entertain a couple's heart
My melted hands from needs come true
A backwards start
I find a place a never new
A foreign life
A plan of doubt, and plan of truth
But what's good enough?
No-one wants to hide you now
No-one does!
A plan I must confess
That has a person come to love
Come to love
My eyes have settled south
An empty view
Pressure on a guilty mind
With thanks to you
I've become desensitised over ties
With things I'm yet to do
No-one wants to hide you now
No-one does!
A plan I must confess
That has a person come to love
Come to love
A member of this room walks hand in hand
Across a white line
My eyes- I'm dressing slowly
My mind- I'm feeling lonely
You could be anywhere
But I am getting nowhere
